I’ve spent a lot of time in that hidden job market—initially to find a job myself. 

When I started I was not a natural at all.  In fact if you had gone to a networking event and found someone who was trying to look like she was NOT hiding out in the ladies room, that would have been me.

But I really learned how to do this by networking with people who are networking masters–people who would tell you they owe their success to their network.
